I'm part of a generation brought up on single-issue rather than party politics, and I'm still happier doing something myself (writing letters, recycling, chairing a school parents group) than canvassing and leafletting at election time.
So I joined Amnesty International. To help them investigate and campaign against human writes abuses around the world. To write letters to prisoners so they know they have my support, and to their gaolers so they know that the world knows what they're doing.
When you are appalled by the latest stories of torture and repression from around the world, what are you going to do about it? You could ask your government to send in the F-16s, but maybe you should light your own candle.
